I’ve been following your work from the beginning, and something about it has always felt deeply familiar even though we’re strangers. My late grandfather was also in the restaurant business, having moved from southern China to Malaysia many years ago. I see so much of him in your dad, and I’ve welled up more than once watching your videos—the language, the food, the culture—it all hits home.
I live in the U.S. now, and your recipes are my go-to whenever I miss home and crave authentic Cantonese food. Just know that I’m rooting for you, along with so many others in your community.
This is such a moving comment 😭😭😭😭 it means so much to know our stories help remind you of your grandfather. I bet he cooked the best food. We really appreciate the love!
Made With Lau has helped me to reconnect with a lot of recipes from my heritage, in a way that I can refer back to over and over (my mom also does not use measuring spoons xD) and I've loved being able to share my food with other people in my life who have never had the opportunity to taste Cantonese home cooking. Thank you - can't wait to see the different steps during this journey and a peek behind the scenes!
Congratulations on your journey and wishes of good fortune and success on the much anticipated cookbook!!! Huge thank you to you Randy, for the foresight and passion in preserving your father’s legacy and sharing it with the World! All Best!
Thank you for sharing your story. My family has a similar story but goes a little further back as my grandparents came in the 1920's. We also want to cherish the history and culture and try to keep the traditions in our family. We made a trip back to Guongzhuo & Taishan in 2019 with the family so our kids could see their roots and see where they have come from.
I have used your father's recipes and enjoy the videos. Best wishes on your new journey. I'll be looking forward to what unfolds.
Thank you for sharing Cheryl! Were you able to visit your grandparent's old home? I went back to my dad's village home in 2015.. I would love to do that again with my entire family.
I’m super excited for your cookbook and for you to be able to do something that a lot of kids are unable to extract from their parents. I’ve tried many a times to document recipes, but the most I get is, I will teach you next time or it’s easy just add XYZ, but there are no quantities or the methodology is missing and you have to second guess what should have happened. I am thankful for your channel and I have made many recipes from your videos which my family love. Thank you from my family to yours x
I couldn’t agree more Rachel. Speaking from experience, it can be really unnatural for them to dissect and explain what they’re doing! I’m so glad we get to play a small part in helping document these recipes!
Hey Randy – I absolutely love how you trace your own story with food through your Dad's legacy. It reminds me in some ways of my own great-grandfather, who was a writer in league with F. Scott Fitzgerald and Robert Frost, amongst others. I recently discovered his life's work, including his memoir, leading to a shocking discovery about a legacy he passed on to me. As an ex fine dining line cook, this saga of course inspired a recipe which I share. Check it out:
Your contents are filled with not only great traditional home cooking recipes but it is the family love which makes them stand out. In addition, the precision and tips of cooking are what bring your recipes alive.
I would like to see recipes for simple traditional Chinese soup and health drinks (using one of those soy milk/ nut making machines).
My father family is from Malin China. I only made a couple recipes from your dad‘s YouTube channel. I am looking forward to purchasing his cookbook in 2026. God bless you and your family.
So excited for your new cookbook! Thank you for help keeping the Cantonese food memories alive in our family. Everyone in your family (Dad, Mom, grandkids, etc) are just precious!
I’m excited for the cookbook also. I actually made a chow mein recipe that I found on your website. And I think I’ve almost mastered it and set it to memory. My kids love when I make it. Just thought I’d share that tidbit. I look forward to the Chronicles too!

AHHH HELLO JOANN! Thank you for all the support and love over the years! I miss you guys it's been so long!
I believe that I already paid for some type of subscription. Can you help us understand how this new subscription is different?
Hi Travis! Great question - this is a place specifically for our cookbook updates, completely separate from our courses.
